Open Source Emerging Contributor

Jeff Macharyas of Canton was recently named a 2017 “Emerging Contributor” by Opensource.com.

Macharyas, a St. Lawrence University senior graphic designer, is a long-time graphic designer, but became interested in open source software while earning his master’s in cybersecurity at Utica College.

Macharyas has written on topics including open source graphic design tools, how Star Trek has inspired the open source community, open source tools for novelists, and more. His first article on graphic design tools received more than 17,500 views in its first six months of publication, he said.

Opensource.com publishes articles about creating, adopting, and sharing open source solutions used in improving technologies, education, business, government, and humanitarian efforts, according to a press release from Macharyas.

Every year, Opensource.com awards contributors who shared articles about open source software and ideas.
